You Are What You Drink: 5-step guide to revive your health today!

We know the infamous phrase ‘You Are What You Eat’, but how about ‘You Are What You Drink’? How many people start their day with Nescafe 3 in 1 coffee mix, followed by a glass of packaged orange juice and top it all off with a mug of black tea with sugar and milk? Wonderful. And that is just in the early hours of the day. Another cup of coffee before lunch, a can of coke during lunch and another cup of coffee in the afternoon to stay awake. Evening drinks, cocktails, wine – after some time of such routine you fall into the trap of becoming dehydrated, fatigued, with high sugar levels, damaged digestive system and troublesome sleep. Even if you are familiar with only one of those rituals for example, daily cup of coffee or can of coke – after regular consumption, you will eventually hit a wall as the unhealthy type of liquid enters your bloodstream causing chaos in your body.


According to Dr. Mercola, here is what happens after drinking a sugary soft drink:

Within the first 10 minutes, 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. This is 100 percent of your recommended daily intake, and the only reason you don’t vomit as a result of the overwhelming sweetness is because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor.

Within 20 minutes, your blood sugar spikes, and your liver responds to the resulting insulin burst by turning massive amounts of sugar into fat.

Within 40 minutes, caffeine absorption is complete; your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, and your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream.

Around 45 minutes, your body increases dopamine production, which stimulates the pleasure centers of your brain – a physically identical response to that of heroin, by the way.

After 60 minutes, you’ll start to have a sugar crash, and that is when you will crave another drink or sweet food. (Source) 


You Are What You Drink – is a powerful message, yet so easy to implement. If you find it difficult to control your diet, then at least start with correcting your liquid intake. You can start today and enjoy an immediate positive effect!


Here is a 5-Step Guide on how to change your drinking habits!


Step 1: Eliminate cans of sodas and packaged juices out of your life for good – coke, diet coke, zero coke and all other wonderfully marketed fake drinks. Sounds tragic and extreme, but there is absolutely no reason for you or your family members to be consuming “white sugar in liquid form”.

BUT there is no sugar in Diet coke?! True, but here is a list of other damaging ingredients that are in your can of ‘zero sugar’:

  • Phosphoric Acid which can interfere with the body's ability to use calcium, leading to osteoporosis or softening of the teeth and bones.

  • Aspartame, a chemical that is used as a sugar substitute in diet soda. There are over 92 different health side effects associated with aspartame consumption including brain tumors, birth defects, diabetes, emotional disorders and epilepsy/seizures. A whole new article is needed to identify where Aspartame is hidden and the dangers of this chemical.

  • Caffeine, caffeinated drinks cause jitters, insomnia, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, elevated blood cholesterol levels, vitamin and mineral depletion, breast lumps, birth defects, and perhaps some forms of cancer.

Also just to mention on the side, a can of coke/red bull  a day increases your chances of diabetes by 85%! I believe there are enough ruthless reasons for you to drop the habit and regain the natural vitality in life!


Step 2: Eliminate instant coffee and introduce freshly brewed coffee (if you must drink coffee…) I personally have no relationship with coffee, my morning energy boost is a glass of water, a green juice and a cup of green tea throughout the day. To think of coffee as a wake up call is very foreign, however many people enjoy it and that is their choice. Throughout my work with clients, I ask them to consume coffee when desired, not when needed. Creating a beautiful ritual of brewing your dark roast actually does have several health benefits, considering you consume it without milk, cream or sugar. Otherwise, the instant coffee powder with water has rather deteriorating effects on your health.


Step 3: Start your day with water. Imagine you have just woken up after a 7-8 hour sleep, your body is totally dehydrated, and it definitely does not need coffee or tea which will dehydrate it even further. Get into a habit of ONE GLASS OF WARM WATER as soon as you wake up to raise your body temperature, regulate the blood pressure, hydrate your vital organs and start the day fresh!


Step 4: Add Pink Himalayan Salt to your water. Himalayan salt contains essential nutrients and minerals for our body, which easily get depleted through sweating and drinking too much water! How ironic! In order to re-balance our system, it is advised to add a pinch of Himalayan salt to your glass of water in the morning, along with one or two lemon slices.
